Dreaming Big this New Year.
Preparing for 2023 and why setting a word for the year is even more important this time around.
I almost opened up the laptop on Christmas Day to send a festive greetings to you all. However, the draw of “flopping” on the sofa, a mix of small feet and chocolate wrappers, distracted me. I am grateful that they did. In those moments of calm, pockets of quiet excitement still filling our hearts, we sat together as a family and enjoyed each others company away from the computer and phone screens.
I imagined that you may also be doing the same, so concluded that an email on Christmas Day probably wouldn’t be necessary.
But I did want to make contact at SOME point between Christmas and New Year to check in and see how you are doing?
And to let you know how the plans for 2023 are coming along.
This wonderful time of year, where jobs are being pushed to next week. We have taken a break to spend time with our loved ones, eat as much as we possibly can whilst still seemingly being able to get away with it, and start to make space in our heads for the year that is to come.
My father in law underwent a big operation at the start of the month (and I know he won’t mind me sharing this), which has completely reformed his mind. It has given him a fresh new outlook on life.
It is something we are often told: you only live once. Life is too short.
This coming year, I feel, is going to be a big one for him.
He is already making firm plans for when he has fully recovered from his opp. Plans that involve travel, exploring and discovering this new man.
Saying no to people who previously may have been taking advantage. He now has the confidence to stand up for himself.
Wonderful at the age of seventy two, that he is able to do that.
But I don’t want to wait until I am seventy two and go through a life changing event to have this outlook. I am ready to start now.
So, my word of the year for 2023, I have decided, is going to be ADVENTURE.
This may come in many different forms: travel with the family. Chasing my BIG dreams. Letting go of those things that currently hold me back and being bold in my decisions.
But before all of that…
Our New Year is going to be peaceful. We have three young children so any hope of making it to midnight have long gone. For now.
We are instead going to be heading over to our favourite place for a walk: The Lake District. Just for the day. To walk, make big plans and dream of the year that is to come. I will take photos to capture our day and may even write about it when we get home.
Whatever you are doing, whoever you are, I wish you all the best for the coming year. I can’t wait to see what it brings for you and your family as you start this brand new chapter.
Happy New Year and thank you for reading.
