Approach the New Year with resolve to find the opportunities hidden in each new day.

Happy Friday to you ❄️
While the temperature seems to have suddenly dropped, meaning the hot water bottles are out and the slipper socks are on, I’m still keeping the home nice and cosy with fairy lights adorning the kitchen cupboard tops and candles lit in the sitting room.
My approach to January is slow. In previous years, I approached January with great gusto. All guns blazing as I dive into my goals list and resolutions. Not this year though. I am taking a new approach, one my body has been yelling at me to try.
Take it slow.
There are a full twelve months ahead, adventures awaiting and dreams to come true. But they can come when they are ready. I am hoping in taking the time to really think about what I want things to look like by next December, my goals are more achievable and I can reach them without burn out.
Setting my goals.
Whether you are a New Years resolution type of person, or perhaps you prefer the “another year, same me” vibe, there is something about a new chapter the year brings, that makes us think about what we want from the next twelve months.
We have house goals, (I also have travel goals but Steve is being realistic and gently reminds me that the house needs attention first. Grrr!)
I have book goals. As I type, I’m anxiously waiting to find out if my longlisted picture book makes the shortlist in the Searchlight Awards. 🤞I shared more about that on my Instagram page.
I have goals to be healthier and stronger this year. For me, Steve and the kids. Getting outdoors every day and cutting out as much processed food as possible, are up there on things I would like to try in 2025. We won’t be cutting these out completely and already eat fairly healthily. I suppose, like many, we just over indulged over Christmas so want a healthier diet again. (I say “we” over indulged, I actually didn’t as I completely lost my appetite. I’m actually very sad about this because, well, it’s Christmas, the time we CAN over indulge! Another reason why I’m not rushing into these goals in January… 😉)
Journal prompts for the weekend.
With goals in mind, I thought perhaps some journalling over the weekend might help set some realistic and clear goals for the next twelve months (or if you prefer to break the year up, the next three months) but while making sure we ease ourselves into 2025.
What does the word wintering conjure up in your mind?
If you could fast forward to this time next year, what would you like your life to look like? Feel free to be as imaginative or as realistic as you want here.
Write about your favourite coffee shop.
Write about three simple habits you could start this year.
Write down three things you are grateful for, going into the weekend. (I’m just grateful it IS the weekend. It has been a long first week back at school!)
Have a lovely weekend whatever you do - we are off to see Wicked! and I’m very excited.
Love Beth x
