Preparing for a storm.
How to shut out the world when it all gets too much
“There's always another storm. It's the way the world works. Snowstorms, rainstorms, windstorms, sandstorms, and firestorms. Some are fierce and others are small. You have to deal with each one separately, but you need to keep an eye on whats brewing for tomorrow.”
― Maria V. Snyder
I found the above quote very apt for our weekend ahead. We are heading off to Flamingo Land tomorrow and I have been constantly checking the weather forecast to see what is “brewing for tomorrow”. Storm Babet is upon us and is the second storm we have had in the last fortnight that has put a damper on our plans.
On the 7th October, my husband and I had a night away planned on the north west coast of Scotland. I had upgraded our room at the Crinan Hotel to a balcony suite; meaning we would be treated to views out across the sea towards the isles of Jura, Mull and Scarba. I pictured us relaxing on this child free night away, sitting in the cosy bar, a glass of red wine in one hand and my book in the other. I had suggested we take our binoculars to scan the water outside for wildlife, we would eat a tasty meal in the restaurant and perhaps go for a long walk. Sounds idyllic doesn’t it?
So you will fully appreciate our disappointment when, three hours into our journey, we were turned around by a policeman who laughed when I told him where we were heading.
“I don’t think so. Every road up there is closed and will be for the next few days.”
