Happy Friday 🎉
How has your week been?
We have our local village day happening tomorrow. It is the first time the village has held something on this scale, a big tent has been erected on the sports field and it all looks very exciting. The forecast is set to be amazing too ☀️
My meal plan this week includes a cheat day on village day, as I plan on doing no cooking and we can eat from the food stalls. My husband was very surprised I suggested this, as normally I’m a “lets take a picnic” kinda girl. But I just want a day off from that. Something easy, you know?
In the lead up to the summer holidays, I will be sharing lots of lovely days out that you can be adding to your diary/planning now. I will try to include as many “free” or low cost ones as possible. Remember, the kids love the local park just as much as a lavish day out… 😉
This newsletter will land in your inbox every Friday morning and includes:
Travel - A round up from Northumberland and beyond.
Kids - A “Rainy Day Corner”
A meal plan (because I sometimes hate doing this job, so hoping it saves you from having to wrack your brain deciding what’s for tea.)
News from Northumberland and beyond.
Super exciting news for Shaun the Sheep fans - the trail at The Sill is back for summer and has had a makeover. This time it is an augmented reality trail with an interactive exhibition, perfect for kids. We went last year and it was fab. And it’s free!
Tiny Toon returns to Newcastle (again a FREE activity). It is located on the green area outside Eldon Square. I took the kids in last year on the bus and we ate a picnic watching a film on the big screen they put up for the outdoor cinema.
Don’t forget to check out your local cinema/theatre. They often do deals or special offers over school holidays. The Alnwick Playhouse have family friendly films showing including “How to train your dragon” and if you become a member (it’s free to join) you can enjoy £3 cinema tickets.
Some of our favourite green spaces over the summer: Druridge Bay, Ingram Valley, Alwinton, Blyth splash park, Carlisle Park in Morpeth, Wooler common and Thrunton Woods.
Further a field, you might enjoy this article on a family friendly trip to Sweden.
The Rainy Day Corner.
Not that I think we will need it this week, but here is an idea for when the weather isn’t so glorious:
Toy Tombola!
This is really for younger children, but you could get older siblings to help set it up?
Grab around ten different toys and line them all up. Give each one a number tag either 1 -10 or if you want to practise maths you could do answers to sums. Then duplicate the numbers on more pieces of paper, which you are going to fold up and add to a basket/hat/bowl etc.
Get your child to pull out a number from the hat and find which toy they have “won”.
What’s for tea.
Here’s our meal plan for this week. I always struggle to feel inspired writing the meal plan, so hopefully this might give you some inspiration, if you feel the same.
Not sure why I thought sausage casserole would be a good idea, it feels kind of autumnal doesn’t it? But I was looking for more slow cookers recipes this week to help on those busy evenings, when there are after school clubs on etc.
Have a wonderful weekend.
