Happy Friday 🎉
How has your week been?
The sun has been shining here in Northumberland, but a gusty wind has also been showing up and spoiling my plans. I can’t sit and work in the garden because where we live is rather exposed, and I think pinning down my diary would be nigh on impossible. (Because of the wind, not because it is already getting super full with summer plans!)
Speaking of summer plans, this is round 2 of trying to get ahead with plotting a wonderful summer 🤞
Are you going away or staying local?
This newsletter will land in your inbox every Friday morning and includes:
Travel - A round up from Northumberland and beyond.
Kids - A “Rainy Day Corner”
A meal plan (because I sometimes hate doing this job, so hoping it saves you from having to wrack your brain deciding what’s for tea.)
News from Northumberland and beyond.
Did you know there is a free bus that goes from Newcastle Haymarket to Wallington Hall and Belsay Hall? It’s operated by GoNorthEast and runs until 6th September. Timetable and info here.
Our favourite place to head for fish and chips in Northumberland is Seahouses. I know there are more upmarket places to go, but we love to sit and look over to the Farne Islands while eating our chips, then head along the harbour for a walk. Bliss. Late evening in the summer holidays is going to be the better time to go as it gets pretty busy. More delicious places to get fish and chips.
This weekend I am working with Arriva buses to share with you affordable family days out this summer. Keep your eyes peeled on next week’s newsletter for that 👀
We went to the Hoppings last night. It is on the Town Moor until Sunday 29th June. I recommend heading towards the right hand side, this will take you to where all the rides for under 5s are and there is a bar with an outdoor seating area. It’s a bit quieter down there if you are visiting with little ones.
Why not try this walk over the summer holidays? Stop at the Rose and Thistle pub for lunch - it’s family friendly!
The Rainy Day Corner.
I like to visit The Works (or somewhere similar like B&M) just before the summer holidays to top up on card, stickers, glue, bubbles, crafty bits and books. The Works have brilliant deals on books! This means we have things for the summer holidays to keep us entertained inside, if the weather is a bit rubbish.
Anything else to add to the store cupboard?
Playdoh is always a hit, or why not try some air drying clay to make models to paint?
Hammer Beads are still a thing (remember them?) and are good for a rainy day too.
Scrapbooking is a great way to practise writing over the long summer break.
What’s for tea.
Here’s our meal plan for this week. I always struggle to feel inspired writing the meal plan, so hopefully this might give you some inspiration, if you feel the same.
I’m hoping we can have some more BBQs over the summer, and I want to try and start buying more meat from our local butcher. It’s more expensive but better quality and I would like to see if we notice a difference to our meals.
Have a wonderful weekend.
