Happy Friday 🎉
How has your Easter holidays been?
Today we are heading over to North Yorkshire for a day of exploring old favourites like Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks, then a stop over at an inn before heading home on Saturday. The Uno Flip will be packed and I’m hoping for a slightly more relaxed evening meal. It will be a welcomed break from the usual routine for one night.
I shall share what we get up to in next weeks email…
This newsletter will land in your inbox every Friday morning and includes:
Travel - A round up from Northumberland and beyond.
Kids - A “Rainy Day Corner”
A meal plan (because I sometimes hate doing this job, so hoping it saves you from having to wrack your brains deciding what’s for tea.)
News from Northumberland and beyond.
The Labyrinth at Cragside is back open after being closed for a short while. Woo hoo!
Schools go back next week and if you have little ones to entertain, here are few ideas: Tiny Tyneside free play space for under 5s at Discovery Museum. Early Years story time at your local library and also one on a Friday morning at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington. Paddle Pod swim classes for little ones.
If you ever need to fill an hour or so on a rainy day, why not book your local sports hall and play pickle ball? We have done this a few times now (you can borrow the paddles and ball from the centre) - it’s a lot of fun!
If you are local, there’s good news for lovers of cake. Nelsons at the Park is now open on Tuesdays (previously this was the one day of the week it closed). 🍰
The Rainy Day Corner.
We have been so lucky with the weather this last month haven’t we? My father in law is a farmer and has been telling me how much we now need it to rain. So just in case the farmers have been doing their rain dance, here’s an idea on how to keep busy on a grey day.
Create your own treasure hunt around the house, using only drawings for clues.
Now, if you aren’t naturally gifted at drawing 🙋🏻♀️this can be part of the challenge…trying to fathom out what exactly you have drawn. I would do at least ten clues to keep the game going for as long as possible, so you can grab a cuppa.
Hide a teddy in a secret location and then leave your clues in each hiding place. Work backwards when setting this up, it’s much easier.
Can the kids then do one for you, using their own drawings?
What’s for tea?
Here’s our meal plan for this week. I always struggle to feel inspired writing the meal plan, so hopefully this might give you some inspiration, if you feel the same.
Enjoy the final weekend of the holidays, and I hope everyone goes back to school with smiles next week.
