We’re getting ready to install a new wood-pellet-burning fireplace, and last night as we were looking at all the bits and pieces that come with it, my husband remarked, “I’m really glad we’re getting this done before the holidays. I hope it creates a really nice, cozy spot we all want to be around and where we play games and read out loud and stuff this winter.”
That’s what your post reminded me of. It’s the same feeling--a focus on family and being together and doing things together in the moment, without a focus on picture opportunities and fancy outings. Thank you for sharing this! It makes me even more excited to try to create a slower-paced, calm, cozy holiday season for my family
Oooh I am so excited for you and your wood burner, it will be so cosy and yes I agree with your husband, a perfect spot for gathering together. It is on my "wish list" one year to have a log burner fireplace. Enjoy your slower-paced holidays, I hope it is wonderful for you.
I couldn't agree more. We too are having a low key lead up to Christmas, mainly because my son has already mentioned the possibility that Santa doesn't exist. I think I've convinced him he is though and that the magic lies within our own beliefs. I suggest he rings the bell to see if he can hear it and it works a treat. We love the build up, cosy nights watching Christmas films and dog walks around our area looking at the houses lit up in anticipation. I remember Christmases as a child with great fondness. My mam always made it magical for us as my dad would usually be at work. She still loves Christmas just as much as us. Bring on the relaxed, family time :)
Yes I am in the same place as you, with Charlie. I think this will be the last Christmas of magic for him, he is on the verge of not believing - it's so sad and feels like the Christmas's with him have just whizzed by. Love what you said about the magic lies within our own beliefs and to be honest I still find it all magical so hope he will too. ✨

I am opting out of all the lead up this year Beth as we make space for Luna’s birthday and remembering Ray.
I love this approach of asking the children. Now how to make that magical pick and mix come to life for them! ✨✨✨🪄✨✨✨
Yeah so much else going on isn't there? I also need the head space for all the school admin that is going to be coming our way 😅
We are going to try the sweet shop in Morpeth this year...
